Silvo Karo
(Slovenia)

Silvo KaroAlthough best-known for his big-wall climbing, Silvo Karo is an exceptionally versatile climber: sport climbing to 8a, speed climbing, mixed climbing, aid climbing to A5 and mountaineering on 8000 metre peaks. In 20 years of climbing, he has made nearly 1000 ascents and established 150 new routes including routes on Fitzroy (Mermoz route), Cerro Torre (west face and south face), Bhagirathi III (Amphitheatre Wall), and Mount Everest (from Western Cwm to west ridge). In 1987, Karo began his filmmaking career with a 16mm camera on the south wall of Cerro Torre in Patagonia. This resulted in the film Cerro Torre - South Face that won a Silver Gentian Award and the UIAA Prize at the film festival in Trento (1990). He was a jury member at the Banff Mountain Film Festival in 1997.
