At age 23, Dawa Steven Sherpa brings fresh new ideas into the mountaineering forum. The owner and operator of the world’s highest bakery – located at Everest basecamp –Steven has summitted two 8000-metre peaks, including Mt. Everest – twice. His first ascent to the top of Everest in May 2007 set him on a quest to discover the effects of climate change on the Himalayas, and led him to develop the Eco Everest Expedition 2008, which, through a combination of mountaineering and scientific research, strived to achieve widespread awareness on the impact of climate change.
Steven is now the managing director of Asian Trekking. Under his direction, the company supports cultural programs in the Himalayan villages, organizes sports competitions, and promotes eco-friendly practices, such as the use of solar and wind power for expeditions’ electricity needs.
