High-Altitude Morning Presentation Features Nature Filmmaker Frédéric Fougea

World-renowned documentary producer Frédéric Fougea will be in the early-morning spotlight in Banff on Wednesday, June 16 atop Sulphur Mountain - located at 2,281 metres (7,486 feet) above sea level - during Breakfast on Sulphur Mountain. This is a special presentation by The Banff Centre for Mountain Culture in collaboration with the Banff Television Festival which runs June 13-19, 1999. "This is an exceptional opportunity for Banff Television Festival delegates and the public to experience the spectacular mountain panorama and to hear from one of the world's great nature filmmakers," said Bernadette McDonald, director of the Centre for Mountain Culture.

Fougea, who heads the Paris-based Boreales Production Company, wrote and produced the award-winning series "Lord of the Animals" which explores the timeless relationship between human beings and animals. His films have captured awards around the world at festivals such as the Jackson Hole Wildlife Festival, Wildscreen, the Banff Television Festival and The Banff Mountain Film Festival which is produced by The Banff Centre for Mountain Culture. He has also won an International Emmy Award. In 1996, The Tsaatan, the Reindeer Riders, won the Grand Prize at the Banff Mountain Film Festival and Gaston and the Truffle Hunters took a Banff Rockie Award at the Banff Television Festival for Best Children's Program. In 1994, He Dances for His Cormorants won the Best Film on Mountain Culture People's Choice Award at the Banff Mountain Film Festival and earned a Banff Rockie Award that same year for Best Children's Program.

Breakfast on Sulphur Mountain starts at 7:30 a.m. in the Panorama Restaurant at the top of Sulphur Mountain which is an eight-minute gondola ride up the mountain. Tickets are complimentary for festival delegates but must be picked up in advance at the Festival Social Events Desk. Tickets for the public are $20 and must be purchased in advance from the Banff Television Festival office in Canmore or the Book and Art Den in Banff.
