Wanted: Peak Performances

Do you have a heart-warming or heart-stopping mountain story on film about living on the edge, pushing the vertical envelope or exploring enchanted lands? Then the Banff Mountain Film Festival wants to hear from you.

The 24th Annual Banff Mountain Film Festival, presented by Eagle Creek Travel Gear, is seeking the best films and videos in the world to compete for screening at this year's event, to be held November 5-7, 1999 at The Banff Centre.

An international jury will choose winners in six categories including Grand Prize, Best Film on Climbing, Best Film on Mountain Sports, Best Film on Mountain Environment and Best Film on Mountain Culture. An audience of more than 5,500 will select the winner of the People's Choice Award. Over $14,000 CAN in prize money is on offer and winning films will tour internationally following the Festival. The deadline for entries is September 18.

Held in the spectacular Canadian Rockies in the town of Banff, Alberta, the Mountain Film Festival is one of the world's largest and most prestigious competitions. It showcases the finest films and videos related to the mountains and the people that live, work or seek adventure in them.

"Our vision is to encourage and affirm a passion for the mountains in people everywhere," says Bernadette McDonald, director of The Banff Centre for Mountain Culture which organizes the event. "The Festival has become so much more than a three-day event in November. We have a loyal following around the world that eagerly anticipates the quality films we screen every year."

In addition to continuous film and video screenings, the Festival also features internationally renowned speakers, an adventure trade fair, a mountain art and craft sale, a climbing wall and seminars on mountain issues.
