February 2, 2000 Money Available for Great Mountain Projects Application packages are now available for this years Banff Centre for Mountain Culture Grants (totalling $18,000), awarded annually to projects that creatively communicate the special nature and culture of the worlds mountain places. "We are delighted to support these projects," says Bernadette McDonald, director of the Centre, located in the Canadian Rockies. "They represent a range of ways to make connections among people and mountain areas around the world." Last year, a selection committee reviewed 24 grant applications for projects in 8 countries, and awarded grants to five projects. Previous grant recipients have included a vertical dance project, a hikers guide to the wilderness sections of the Great Wall of China, an encyclopaedic, interactive CD-ROM about Mt Logan, and a photo exhibition about 40 years of change in landscape and culture in the Khumbu region of Nepal among many others.
