Do You Have a Mountain Tale to Tell? The 2002 Banff Mountain Book Festival is looking for newly published books that celebrate mountain experiences and places. The festival, presented by Canadian Mountain Holidays, is seeking entries for its 9th annual international book competition. The festival takes place October 30 to November 3, 2002, at The Banff Centre. The Banff Mountain Book Festival is the largest book festival of its kind in the world. Each year, the festival brings the spirit of outdoor adventure and the tradition of mountain literature to Banff, uniting writers, publishers, editors, photographers and, of course, readers. Featuring guest speakers, readings, seminars, an international book competition, a book fair, and book signings and launches, the festival offers a wide spectrum of experiences for the participants and the audience. An international jury will judge the submissions and present awards in four categories including: Mountain Literature, Mountain Exposition, Mountain Image, and Adventure Travel. In addition, they will select the best overall book, regardless of category. Grand Prize winner in 2001 was Hazard's Way by Roger Hubank (The Ernest Press). Submissions must be in English, except in the category of Mountain Image, where submissions in all languages are acceptable. Seven copies of each submission must be received at the festival office in Banff by July 15, 2002. For titles published after June 30, the deadline for entries is August 15, 2002. Two of these copies will be kept in the Mountain Culture Archives. Entry forms are available by contacting the festival office or through the festival Web site at www.banffmountainfestivals.ca Special guests at the 2002 festival include Greg Child, Tim Cahill, Yvon Chouinard, Lynn Hill, Karsten Heuer, Roger Hubank, Jerry Kobalenko, Dermot Somers, and Eric Simonson. The festival is a program of Mountain Culture at The Banff Centre. Mountain Culture programming promotes understanding and appreciation of the world's mountain places by creating opportunities for people to share – and find inspiration in – mountain experiences, ideas and visions. More information about the festival, the book entry procedures and regulations, and online entry forms can be found on-line at: www.banffmountainfestivals.ca or through:Banff Mountain Book Festival Tel: (403) 762-6347, 1-800-298-1229; Fax: (403) 762-6277 |
