Stephen Woodley
Stephen Woodley is an ecologist, who has worked in the
field of environmental management for 30 years. He is
Chief Scientist in Parks Canada's ecological integrity
branch where he works on a number of issues related to
protected areas, including wildlife disease, developing
techniques for monitoring and assessment of ecological
integrity, ecological restoration and sustainable
forestry. Stephen was on the science advisory group to
the Banff Bow Valley Study and was a member of a Parks
Canada’s Ministerial Panel on Ecological Integrity. This
independent panel was asked to evaluate the success of
national parks in meeting their legal mandate to manage
for ecological integrity.
Current projects include being a member of the Technical
Working Group for the program of work on protected areas
under the Convention on Biological Diversity. Stephen is
a adjunct professor at University of New Brunswick, and
a member of the World Conservation Union’s (IUCN)
Commission on Protected Areas.
