Case Study
Submission Format |

For Sustainable Mountain
Communities, June 14-18, we are seeking examples of
existing environmental sustainability problems and
programs that can be used as case studies in
facilitated problem-solving sessions. Ideally, these
case studies should not be past problems that have
been largely solved, or past projects that are
largely completed. They should be "works in
progress", where a completely successful solution
has not yet been identified.
Accepted case study presenters will receive their
conference registration free of charge.
If you are interested in proposing a case study
for use at the conference, please email us a Word document that includes the following
information. This must be received in our office by
April 30, 2003 at the latest.

- What is the problem your project is trying
to address?
- Where does it take place?
- How long has this problem existed?
- What is the trend – is the problem getting
worse, getting better, staying the same?
- Who are the main stakeholders in this issue
– can you describe each group with a sentence or
two?
- What solutions or ideas have been tried?
- Is the project showing promise, turning out
to be discouraging, just bumbling along?
- Focus questions: If you had access to a
group of experienced mountain policymakers,
researchers, managers and activists from around
the world, what questions would you like to ask
them about your problem or project? Try to come
up with 3 or 4.
- Describe your vision for the future of this
problem or project - how will you know that you
have achieved success? Finish the sentence "We
will have been successful if …"
