Michael Hanson: Six Deer

Michael Hanson: Six Deer

“I was supposed to meet a friend of mine to photograph a group of kids at the rope swing on a nearby lake. A miscommunication led to me driving around in good light alone with nothing to shoot. After being frustrated for almost an hour, I made a little noise and spooked the deer into raising their heads. Ten images later, I had a single frame of the deer facing the camera and nine of them running away. It was a lucky moment.”

Michael Hanson has been based in Seattle, Washington, for the past two years, after growing up in the South. He finished a minor league baseball career and began photography in 2005. His assignments have taken him throughout the US and the world. This past year he has worked in Rwanda, Ethiopia, Costa Rica, Belize, Peru, and Canada. He is often spotted in or near swimming holes.
